Construction will soon begin on a series of four fully-electric towboats that New York-based Zeeboat will make available for charter beginning in 2025.

The design of the towboats will be based on The Shearer Group's (TSGI) proven hull design for a 95- by 34-foot (28.9- by 10.3-metre) towboat. The hull shape was developed by TSGI using advanced fluid dynamic calculations and backup up by vessels in service.

The vessels will also each be fitted with battery energy storage systems supplied by Shift Clean Energy.

Houston-based Industrial Service Solutions will provide Zeeboat with general contract, project management, and vessel support services for the manufacture and delivery of the four towboats.
