US Army Corps of Engineers orders tug pair from Louisiana builder

The US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) has awarded Morgan City, Louisiana-based Conrad Shipyard a contract for the construction of two ice-class tugs.

The vessels' duties will include icebreaking and mobilisation of various pieces of floating equipment. Their area of operations will be the St. Mary's River and Soo Harbor in the USACE's Detroit District.

The ABS-classed tugs will each measure 76 feet (23 metres) long and will be powered by diesel engines. Accommodations will be available for three crewmembers.
