Seabulk’s newest hybrid tug floated out

Master Boat Builders of Coden, Alabama, has launched a new hybrid tug ordered by shipping company Seabulk.

The 98-foot (29-metre) Spartan will be fitted with a hybrid propulsion arrangement consisting of two Caterpillar 3512E EPA Tier IV-compliant engines and two ABB electric motors as well as associated frequency drives. Three Caterpillar generators will supply power for the onboard systems.

Design work on the tug was provided by Canadian naval architects Robert Allan Ltd. Delivery is scheduled for January 2022.
