Seabulk adds hybrid escort tug to fleet

Master Boat Builders of Alabama recently delivered a hybrid electric tug to Florida-based marine logistics company Seabulk.

The Robert Allan Ltd-designed Spartan is built to meet US Coast Guard regulations and is classed through the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), including escort notation.

The vessel has an LOA of 98 feet (29.87 metres), a beam of 43 feet (13.1 metres), and a bollard pull of 90 tons (81 tonnes). The integrated hybrid propulsion system includes two EPA Tier IV certified Caterpillar 3512E main engines, each producing 2,550 hp (1,901 kW), and two Berg MTA 628 azimuth thrusters, three Caterpillar generators, and two ABB propulsion motors and associated variable frequency drives.
