US vessel operator Foss Maritime has confirmed that its Seattle shipyard located in North Queen Anne is now permanently closed with effect from Saturday, October 30, 2021.

Foss said its decision to close its Seattle maintenance and repair facility is a result of regular evaluation of business lines and follows the company's effort to improve the viability of the facility over many years. Shipyard employees will continue to receive salary, benefits, and an average of overtime wages through the end of the year, though with no work requirement, as operations have ceased.

Moving forward, Foss will utilise other Pacific Northwest shipyard operations to meet its fleet maintenance and repair needs.
