US-based Diamond S Shipping has confirmed that the four crewmembers who had been kidnapped from one of its product tankers on November 29, 2020, were released from captivity on Wednesday, January 6.

All four crewmembers from the Marshall Islands-flagged Agisilaos are safe and have undergone further medical examinations.

The tanker had been boarded by an unidentified number of pirates in Ghanaian waters 75 nautical miles off Lome on November 29. The perpetrators were able to board the ship despite the evasive manoeuvres executed by the crew.

The kidnapped sailors included Filipino, Russian, and Romanian nationals.
