Bollinger Shipyards has been awarded a contract to construct an ocean transport barge for defence firm General Dynamics Electric Boat.

The vessel will be used to support Electric Boat's construction of submarines for the US Navy by transporting submarine modules to the company's Groton, Connecticut, shipyard for final assembly and test.

The concept and contract design for the 395- by 100-foot (120.3- by 30.4-metre) barge was performed by Bristol Harbor Group. The detail design engineering will be performed at the Bollinger Lockport New Construction facility in Lockport, Louisiana, and construction will take place at the Bollinger Marine Fabrication facility in Amelia, Louisiana.

Delivery of the vessel is scheduled for 2021.
