Maine State Ferry newbuilding floated out

Washburn and Doughty Associates of Boothbay, Maine, launched a new ferry into the water on Friday, April 9.

Slated for the Maine State Ferry Service, Capt. Richard G. Spear will have a length of 46.9 metres, a beam of 11.5 metres, a displacement of 465 tonnes, and capacity for 250 passengers and 23 vehicles upon completion.

The ferry was designed by naval architects Gilbert Associates.

Capt. Richard G. Spear will soon begin undergoing sea trials. It is scheduled to enter service later this summer.
