Virginia tour operator Miss Hampton II Harbor Cruises has sold its only vessel to Delaware-based Cape Water Tours and Taxi.

The Covid-19 pandemic and the owners' impending retirement from the tour boat business led to the decision to sell the 117-passenger vessel Miss Hampton II.

The boat had sailed regularly along Virginia's Hampton Roads Harbor and Chesapeake Bay since 1989. Its daily trips included sightseeing excursions of nearby Naval Station Norfolk, allowing guests to see some of the US Navy's modern ships such as aircraft carriers and submarines up close.

The Hampton city government said it is planning to have a replacement vessel in service by the spring of 2022.
