Netherlands-based Roll Group has completed the transportation of two wind turbine foundation components that Jan De Nul will install off the US East Coast in the latter's first ever project for the US offshore renewables market.
The heavy transport vessel BigRoll Beaufort was used to pick up the various components in Rostock, Germany, and Esbjerg, Denmark, before proceeding to its final destination of Halifax, Canada. At Halifax, the components will be discharged onto Jan De Nul's installation vessel Vole au Vent, which will then sail to the wind farm site 43 kilometres off the coast of Virginia Beach, Virginia.
The wind farm, which is expected to generate a combined total of 12 MW once it becomes operational, is a cooperation between Dominion Energy and Ørsted Wind Power North America, with Jan De Nul Group as subcontractor.
