Everett, Washington-based OceanGate Expeditions has selected a multi-purpose offshore support vessel (OSV) operated by Canada's Horizon Maritime to serve as the surface support vessel for an upcoming survey expedition to the wreckage of the sunken ocean liner Titanic.

This expedition will be the first of an annual series that will document the condition of the wreck, the debris field, and the marine life found there.

Horizon Maritime's 93-metre OSV Horizon Arctic will also serve as a mothership for Titan, OceanGate's five-person submersible.

OceanGate President Stockton Rush said Horizon Arctic was chosen for its low-emission hybrid propulsion system, full redundancies, and the high standard of onboard accommodations for the crew and the mission specialists.

OceanGate's Titanic survey expedition will embark in June 2021 with a team of scientists, content experts, and citizen explorers trained as mission specialists to study and document the important maritime heritage site.
