The US Navy took delivery of LCAC 102, its third Ship to Shore Connector (SSC) air-cushion landing craft, on Thursday, June 3.
The delivery followed successful completion of acceptance trials with the navy's Board of Inspection and Survey to test the readiness and capability of the craft and to validate requirements.
The new craft and others in the same series were built by Textron Systems Corporation with similar configurations, dimensions, and clearances to the navy's legacy landing craft air-cushion (LCAC), ensuring compatibility with existing well deck-equipped amphibious ships, as well as the expeditionary transfer dock.
The SSC can carry up to 74 tons (67 tonnes) of cargo or 145 troops. Four Rolls-Royce MT7 gas turbines can propel the vessel to speeds in excess of 35 knots.
