US Navy takes delivery of future USS Oakland

The US Navy took delivery of the future littoral combat ship (LCS) USS Oakland in a ceremony at Austal USA's shipyard in Mobile, Alabama, on Friday, June 26.

The 127-metre vessel is the 22nd LCS overall and the 12th of the Independence-class to join the fleet. Its commissioning is scheduled for early 2021.

The future Oakland will be assigned to San Diego-based Littoral Combat Ship Squadron One along with the rest of its Independence-class sisters.
