The US Navy accepted delivery of the future USS Tripoli, the seventh America-class amphibious assault ship (LHA), from Huntington Ingalls Industries' (HII) Ingalls Shipbuilding division on Friday, February 28.

Once in service, the ship will transport elements of a marine expeditionary unit or marine expeditionary brigade with a combination of aircraft and landing craft. Optimised for aviation capability, Tripoli will enhance US Marine Corps aviation with an enlarged hangar deck, greater maintenance capability, and JP-5 fuel capacity.

The LHA will have a length of 257 metres, a displacement of approximately 45,000 tonnes, and a speed of over 20 knots.
