Due to the current coronavirus pandemic, the US Navy has decided to indefinitely postpone its scheduled commissioning of the future Virginia-class fast attack submarine USS Vermont.

The announcement comes after General Dynamics Electric Boat (GDEB) successfully completed the submarine's first open-sea trials which included high-speed runs and its first time to submerge on March 18.

Vermont's formal entry into service had originally been scheduled for April 18.
