The US Navy commissioned its newest littoral combat ship (LCS) in a ceremony in Brunswick, Georgia, on Saturday, February 5.

USS Savannah is the 14th LCS to be built under the Independence-class by Austal USA of Mobile, Alabama, and the 28th overall LCS to be built for the US Navy.

Austal USA CEO Paddy Gregg said that construction of Savannah was completed in just under three years, a full twelve months earlier compared to previous ships delivered under the Independence-class LCS program.

The LCS will soon set sail for San Diego, where it will be homeported along with other Independence-class ships.
