US Navy commissions littoral combat ship Kansas City

The US Navy commissioned the littoral combat ship (LCS) USS Kansas City in a ceremony on Thursday, June 20.

Built by Austal USA, the 11th Independence-class LCS is the second US Navy vessel named in honour of Kansas City, the largest city in the state of Missouri.

The 127- by 31-metre Kansas City will be homeported in San Diego along with its sisters in Littoral Combat Ship Squadron One.
