US Navy christens littoral combat ship Mobile

The US Navy christened its newest littoral combat ship (LCS), the future USS Mobile, in a ceremony in the vessel's namesake city in Alabama on Saturday, December 7.

The vessel is the 13th Independence-class LCS to be built by Austal USA and the fifth US Navy ship to be named after the city of Mobile on Alabama's Gulf Coast.

The future Mobile will be assigned to Littoral Combat Ship Squadron One homeported in San Diego, California.
