The US Navy christened the future guided missile destroyer USS Carl M. Levin in a ceremony on Saturday, October 2.

Built by General Dynamics Bath Iron Works in Maine, the Arleigh Burke-class destroyer honours the late US Senator Carl M. Levin, who had twice chaired the US Senate Armed Services Committee.

The navy said the future Carl M. Levin will be an Arleigh Burke-class Flight IIA destroyer with the Aegis Baseline 9 Combat Systems, including integrated air and missile defence capability. The ship was launched into the water at Bath Iron Works on May 16 of this year.
