The US Coast Guard will name the eleventh Legend-class national security cutter (NSC) after Elizebeth Smith Friedman, a noted cryptanalyst regarded as the founder of the modern day coast guard intelligence programme.
As with other NSCs, the vessel will have a length of 127 metres, a beam of 16 metres, a speed of over 28 knots, and a range of 12,000 nautical miles.
Construction of the future USCGC Friedman will take place at the facilities of Huntington Ingalls Industries' (HII) Ingalls Shipbuilding division in Pascagoula, Mississippi.
