The US Coast Guard has decommissioned three of its patrol boats that are forward-deployed to Bahrain.
The Island-class cutters Maui, Monomoy, and Wrangell operated in the Middle East for nearly two decades. From the early 2000s until their decommissioning, the trio were assigned to Patrol Forces Southwest Asia (PATFORSWA), the coast guard's largest unit to be based outside of the United States.
The Island-class boats are being retired to make way for the introduction of the Sentinel-class fast response cutters (FRCs) into service with PATFORSWA.
