Two US Coast Guard Atlantic Area-based cutters offloaded more than US$330 million worth of illegal narcotics earlier this month at Port Everglades, Florida.

The crew of the medium endurance cutter Campbell offloaded more than 3,200 kilograms of cocaine worth more than US$123 million on Thursday, February 4, while the crew of the medium endurance cutter Harriet Lane offloaded more than 5,300 kilograms of cocaine and marijuana worth more than US$206 million just four days later.

The illegal narcotics offloaded are a direct reflection of 14 interdictions that occurred in the Eastern Pacific Ocean involving seven US Coast Guard and two US Navy assets.

The law enforcement phase of counter-smuggling operations in the Caribbean Sea is conducted under the authority of the Seventh Coast Guard District, headquartered in Miami. The interdictions, including the actual boardings, are led and conducted by members of the US Coast Guard.
