The US Coast Guard commissioned its newest Sentinel-class fast response cutter (FRC) in a ceremony in Atlantic Beach, North Carolina, on Friday, August 6.

USCGC Glen Harris is the 44th Sentinel-class cutter to be built for the coast guard by Bollinger Shipyards of Louisiana. It will be homeported in Manama, Bahrain, along with five other FRCs.

Glen Harris had already commenced operational sailings even while in "pre-commissioned" status. The coast guard said the vessel was the first to arrive on-scene in response to the deadly capsizing of the liftboat Seacor Power off Port Fourchon, Louisiana, on April 13 of this year.

As with other Sentinel-class vessels, Glen Harris measures 154 by 25 feet (46 by 7.62 metres) and displaces 353 tons (320 tonnes). It can reach speeds of over 28 knots and sail up to 2,500 nautical miles.
