The University of Maine recently unveiled a patrol boat that was built using 3D printing technology.

The 5,000-pound (2.26-tonne), 25-foot (7.6-metre) vessel was developed by the university's Advanced Structures and Composites Center in cooperation with US defence research company Navatek.

The boat was built within 72 hours by the Advanced Structures and Composites Center's prototype polymer 3D printer, which was recently inducted into the Guinness World Records for being the largest printer of its kind in the world.
