Two US Navy sailors suffered injuries as a result of a gas leak incident that occurred during routine maintenance on a warship near the naval base in San Diego, California, on Thursday, July 7.
The two personnel were working on the Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer USS Mustin at the facilities of BAE Systems San Diego Ship Repair when hazardous fumes were detected on board the ship at around 10:00 local time on Thursday.
The two sailors were treated for exposure on-site by responding medical teams. One of them was later brought to UCSD Medical Center for further treatment.
The leak was brought under control by emergency crews at around 11:30, after which the affected onboard spaces were once again confirmed to be safe for entry.
The navy has not yet provided details on the type of gas that had leaked and caused the injuries.
