US Secretary of the Navy Kenneth J. Braithwaite has confirmed that the six ships in the US Navy's newest class of guided missile frigates (FFG(X)) will be named Constellation, Constitution, Chesapeake, Congress, President, and United States.
The names were selected in honour of the six heavy frigates that were also the first US Navy ships authorised by Congress in 1794.
The Constellation-class frigates will be built at Marinette Marine in Marinette, Wisconsin, with the first ship scheduled for delivery in 2026.
