The Swedish Coastguard has awarded Netherlands-based the Damen Shipyards Group a contract for the construction and delivery of seven fast patrol vessels in a series.

Each vessel will have carbon-fibre composite construction, a length of 26.75 metres, and a cruising speed of 25 knots. Secondary missions will include maritime rescue, environmental protection, and salvage assistance.

Each vessel will also have a stern slipway for launching and recovery of RIBs and a deck crane for use with light cargo.

The vessels will be powered by Volvo D13 engines fitted with exhaust gas aftertreatment systems.

Design work on the vessels was initially carried out by the coastguard with Damen providing improvements to ensure enhanced seakeeping, comfort, and sustainability.

The Eastern Shipbuilding Group (ESG) of Panama City, Florida, recently held a keel authentication ceremony for the future USCGC Ingham, a new Heritage-class offshore patrol cutter (OPC) slated for the US Coast Guard.

The cutter is the fourth US government vessel named in honour of Samuel D. Ingham, who served as US Secretary of the Treasury under President Andrew Jackson.

The 360-foot (110-metre) vessel and its sister OPCs are designed to provide a capability bridge between the coast guard's Legend-class national security cutters, which patrol the open ocean, and the Sentinel-class fast response cutters, which operate closer to shore.
