The US Navy's future Independence-class littoral combat ship USS Kansas City has successfully concluded acceptance trials in the Gulf of Mexico after a series of in-port and underway demonstrations.
During the trials, the navy conducted comprehensive tests of the vessel's systems, which included main propulsion, auxiliaries, and electrical systems. The LCS also performed demonstrations of its capability, including a full-power demonstration, steering and quick reversal, anchor drop test, and combat system detect-to-engage sequence.
Built by Austal USA, the future Kansas City is scheduled to be delivered to the navy in early December 2019. Following delivery and commissioning, it will be homeported in San Diego along with 10 of its Independence-class sisters in Littoral Combat Ship Squadron One.
