The US Navy christened the future guided missile destroyer USS Jack H. Lucas in a ceremony in Pascagoula, Mississippi, on Saturday, March 26.

The destroyer is being built by Huntington Ingalls Industries' (HII) Ingalls Shipbuilding division as a Flight III variant of the Arleigh Burke-class. The Flight III upgrade is centered on the AN/SPY-6(V)1 Air and Missile Defense Radar and incorporates upgrades to the electrical power and cooling capacity, as well as additional changes that enhance the ship's warfighting capabilities.

The destroyer honours the late Captain Jacklyn "Jack" Lucas, who at 17 years of age became the youngest World War II recipient of the Medal of Honor.
