The Lake County Sheriff's Department in Indiana recently secured government funding worth US$770,000 for the purchase of a new patrol and rescue boat.

The Lake County Council approved the purchase of the boat, which is slated to join two other vessels in operation on Lake Michigan. One of the existing boats was built in 1994.

The new boat will be built by Metal Shark of Louisiana. It will be capable of a maximum speed of 52 knots.
