Austal USA has cut the first steel for what will be the sixth Navajo-class towing, salvage, and rescue ship (T-ATS) ordered by the US Navy.

The yet unnamed vessel is the first steel ship to be constructed by Austal USA. Manufacture will take place at the company's recently completed enclosed steel production facility in Mobile, Alabama.

Delivery is scheduled for late 2024.

Austal USA will also build the seventh Navajo-class T-ATS at the same facility.
