Eastern Shipbuilding Group has cut the first steel for the future US Coast Guard cutter Chase.

The future Chase will be the second 110- by 16-metre offshore patrol cutter (OPC) to be built by Eastern Shipbuilding for the US Coast Guard. The vessel will honour Salmon Portland Chase, who had served as US Secretary of the Treasury from 1861 to 1864.

Keel-laying is expected to take place by 2021.
