Philly Shipyard (PSI) has received authorisation by the US Department of Transportation's Maritime Administration (MARAD) and subsequent order from TOTE Services for the construction of one additional National Security Multi-Mission Vessel (NSMV), marking the fifth and final NSMV in the training ship series.

This modern vessel will replace the aging training vessel at California State University Maritime Academy (Cal Maritime) in Vallejo, California.

Construction is scheduled to commence in 2023 while the contractual delivery date is set in 2026.

The NSMVs are designed to provide professional training for future mariners as well as to support humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR) missions in times of need. Onboard facilities will include instructional spaces, a full training bridge, and accommodations for up to 600 cadets.
