Bollinger Shipyards of Lockport, Louisiana, has acquired Gulf Island Fabrication's shipyard facilities in nearby Houma.
Bollinger said the acquisition expands its own construction and repair capacity and capabilities to better serve customers in the commercial and defence sectors.
The transaction, the financial terms of which were not disclosed, includes a 176-hectare waterfront facility with 1.8 hectares of existing operations, fabrication and warehouse space, and four floating drydocks.
The 176-hectare waterfront property sists on the west bank of the Houma Navigation Canal. Around 114 hectares within this property is unimproved land that is available for expansion
The 1.8 hectares of existing operations include 1,600 square metres of administrative and operations facilities, 14,800 square metres of covered fabrication facilities, and 1,800 square metres of warehouse facilities. It also has 2,000 linear metres of water frontage, including 716 metres of steel bulkheads.
Located just 48 kilometres from the Gulf of Mexico, the strategic location provides short and unrestricted access to the newly acquired Houma facility from open waters.
