The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has confirmed its intent to hold a virtual public board meeting to determine the probable cause for the 2019 sinking of the crab fishing vessel Scandies Rose.

Scandies Rose sank on December 31, 2019, 2.5 miles (four kilometres) south of Sutwik Island, Alaska.

The vessel had a crew of seven. Two crewmembers were rescued by the US Coast Guard while the remaining five went missing after the accident and were never found.

During the meeting, the NTSB's five-member board will vote on the findings, probable cause, and recommendations as well as any changes to the draft final report.

The meeting is scheduled for 09:30 Eastern time on June 29, 2021. A link to the webcast will be available shortly before the start of the meeting.

The NTSB board meeting follows a virtual formal hearing on the same incident presided over by the US Coast Guard earlier this year.
