US-based dry bulk shipping company the Foremost Group has confirmed that Angela Chao, its Chair and Chief Executive Officer, has tragically passed away following a vehicular accident.

Born in 1974, Ms Chao was the youngest of six daughters of James Chao and the late Ruth Mulan Chu Chao, who had co-founded the Foremost Group in New York in 1964.

Ms Chao was previously Vice President of the Foremost Group, concentrating on Ship Operations and Ship Management, and then promoted to Senior Vice President of the company, adding Chartering and Sale and Purchase to her responsibilities. Prior to that, she was Assistant Vice President where she implemented the Foremost Group's Safety Management System to comply with the International Safety Management Code.

Before joining the Foremost Group in 1996, Ms Chao worked in the Mergers and Acquisitions Department of Smith Barney, now Morgan Stanley Smith Barney.

Ms Chao earned her MBA degree from Harvard Business School after receiving her undergraduate degree in economics from Harvard College where she graduated magna cum laude in three years.
