Iowa-based agricultural cooperative New Cooperative recently held a groundbreaking ceremony to mark the official start of construction of a new port along the Missouri River.

Once completed, the 15-hectare Port of Blencoe is expected to be able to accommodate up to 240,000 tonnes of soybeans, corn, dried distillers grains (DDGS), dry fertilisers, and ag lime each year. Further, it will have the capacity to unload, clean, and reload up to nine barges at a time.

The main objective of the port's construction is to ensure the movement of Iowa grain out to the broader international market, Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds said at the groundbreaking ceremony.

The port is expected to be operational by the summer of 2021.
