Construction underway on new hybrid survey boat for University of Vermont

Derecktor Shipyards of Mamaroneck, New York is currently building a new catamaran vessel for the University of Vermont (UVM).

Designed by UK companies Chartwell Marine and Engineered Marine Systems (EMS), the craft will feature hybrid electric propulsion and equipment for conducting surveys and aquatic ecology research.

The builder said the vessel is scheduled for delivery in the spring of 2022. It will be operated by UVM's Rubenstein Ecosystem Science Laboratory.
