Baird Maritime ends the month of September by devoting this entire week to the passenger vessel sector. We again review a variety of vessels, with some notable inclusions this week being a whale-watching boat for Alaskan waters, an inland river cruise ship for a Russian operator, and an inter-island ferry for Kiribati.
The vessels' propulsion systems are also varied. Though the majority continue to run on conventional marine fuels, we are also seeing examples powered by lower-emission alternatives such as LNG, batteries, and even hydrogen, as in the case of a new commuter catamaran for California's famed Bay Area.
Readers are assured that these pages will continue to feature news, reviews, and other articles covering this ever important segment of the global maritime industry.
– "Basically, nobody then foresaw that anyone would be idiotic enough to advance a private business US$150 million to build some ferries without correct skills, oversight, and accountability in place."
– by Hieronymus Bosch, Baird Maritime's anonymous insider in the world of offshore oil and gas operations
