Kent Stewart is an old favourite of Baird Maritime readers. His occasional columns on matters maritime have been popular for years. They distil his very extensive experience and great wisdom as a marine engineer of long standing.
Most of the chapters/anecdotes in the book have been seen before on the Baird Maritime website and its preceding magazines but the book also contains some new material. All of it is fascinating and much is amusing in Kent's delightfully whimsical style.
What is even more important about the book as a collection of columns is that it contains a large amount of very valuable maritime history. Indeed, this reviewer has already purloined significant amounts of it for his forthcoming maritime history of Australia.
Having lived it, Kent has very ably recorded much of the good, bad, ugly, and delightfully funny of Australian maritime history for the past sixty years. His book is both entertaining and enlightening.
