BOOK REVIEW | Leyte Gulf 1944 (1): The Battles of the Sibuyan Sea and Samar

This is another excellent example of Osprey Publishing's "Campaign" series of brief but information-packed histories of important naval battles. In this case, the subject is the first half of the Battle of Leyte Gulf, the biggest naval battle in history.

As is usual with the Campaign series, this book is very impressively illustrated and mapped despite its admirable brevity. Indeed, some of the original photographs are brilliant and the battle diagrams clear and useful.

There are many books on Leyte Gulf but this brief and very concise tome is one of the best. The author, a former officer in the United States Navy, has written fifty books for Osprey Publishing. He knows his subject intimately and writes and researches very well.
