NYK Line has chosen the name Pirika Moshiri Maru for a coal carrier it currently has under construction at Oshima Shipbuilding.

The ship will be used to transport coal from Australia and other countries to the Tomato-Atsuma Coal Power Station for Hokkaido Electric Power.

Pirika Moshiri Maru will replace NYK's Shin Sapporo Maru, which has been in service for Hokkaido Electric Power for more than 15 years.

The vessel will have a length of 235 metres, breadth of 43 metres, depth of 18.4 metres and deadweight tonnage of 88,886 tonnes.

The vessel is expected for delivery in January 2019.
