Fortescue Metals Group, Kawasaki Heavy Industries, and Japanese liquefied hydrogen supplier Iwatani Corporation have entered into a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to develop a business model for the supply of liquefied hydrogen from renewable energy.
Under the MOU, the parties will start to investigate the establishment of integrated liquefied hydrogen supply chains, encompassing hydrogen production and liquefaction using electricity from renewable energy sources such as solar and wind in Australia and overseas.
The hydrogen will be transported by a purpose-designed seagoing vessel for delivery and distribution in Japan.
