Construction will begin soon on the Port of Brisbane's AU$158 million (US$120 million) international cruise terminal at Luggage Point on the north side of the Brisbane River.
Site preparation works will start in November, with construction of the wharf to begin mid-next year, and construction of the purpose-built terminal to begin in about 12 months. All works will be privately funded.
The two-level terminal building of about 9,300 square metres will be connected to a 200-metre-long wharf. Two air bridges will enable the movement of passengers on and off the ships.
Port of Brisbane Chief Executive Officer Roy Cummins said the world-class facility would support the cruise industry and deliver an enhanced passenger experience.
The port will partner with Brisbane City Council to upgrade the roads to provide easy access to the city.
