The YM Efficiency's loss of 83 cargo containers overboard along the Australian coast has been attributed to adverse weather condition by the vessel's operator Yang Ming Marine Transport.

Debris has already washed ashore along the Australian coast including nappies, sanitary products and surgical masks.

Though another 30 cargo containers were damaged, a spokesperson for the YM Efficiency confirmed there was no damage to the ship itself and no one was injured.

Clean-up efforts are underway under the organisation of the New South Wales Road and Maritime Services.
