On Board, an expedition cruise vessel operator in the Australian state of Tasmania, recently took delivery of a new boutique liveaboard cruise vessel.
Built by Richardson Devine Marine of Hobart in compliance to NSCV 1C/1D regulations, the aluminium-hulled, 24- by eight-metre Odalisque III is crewed by four personnel and can host up to 12 guests in six stylish and flexible cabins in overnight configuration, though a maximum of 36 passengers can be carried if required. As with the other vessels in the On Board fleet, Odalisque III was purpose-built to ensure only minimal environmental impact while operating in the Tasmanian wilderness.
The upper deck features three large guest cabins, a wheelhouse lounge and dining area as well as an outdoor dining and viewing area. The main deck features four cabins with queen-size beds and en suite toilets, a large indoor dining area, an outdoor viewing platform, and a galley. These accommodations allow the vessel to be used as a dedicated overnight expedition boat, allowing the other vessels in the On Board fleet to be used for shorter private charter trips.
The design has also allowed for the addition of two 5.3-metre aluminium tenders, accessible from the main deck, to allow guests to board a tender for shore excursions. For guests who opt to remain behind, they have access to lounge and bar areas, all of which provide clear views of the surroundings outside thanks to the installation of knee-to-ceiling windows. On Board said that tinted glass is used for the windows to reduce the need for excess air conditioning.
The catamaran is powered by two Scania D13 076M engines that each produce 607 kW at 2,300 rpm. The engines drive two propellers to deliver a maximum speed of 25 knots and a service speed of 21 knots. The onboard systems draw electrical power from two 60kW generators.
Odalisque III has already commenced operational sailings, beginning with its maiden voyage through the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area.
