Spanish ferry operator Naviera Armas has confirmed that it will add a new Ro-Pax vessel in its fleet in time for commencement of regular sailings in July this year.

Built by Australia's Incat as a near identical sister of the company's earlier ferry Volcan de Tagoro (pictured), Volcan de Taidia will measure 111 metres long and will have capacity for 1,184 passengers and up to 595 lane metres of freight. The passenger spaces will also include a business class section with 155 seats.

Volcan de Taidia will have a speed of 34 knots. It will be operated on Armas' service connecting the cities of Las Palmas and Santa Cruz de Tenerife in the Canary Islands.

The ferry has been named after Mount Teide (Taidia in Spanish), a volcano on the island of Tenerife in the Canarys.
