The New South Wales state government has awarded a A$1.3 billion (US$920 million) contract to Transdev to add 400 weekly ferry services to its existing operations in Sydney.

Transdev, one of whose subsidiaries has been running the state government-owned ferries since 2012, will shoulder the cost of leasing 10 new vessels for a planned 280 weekly services on the Parramatta River and three additional vessels to operate in Sydney Harbour on 120 weekly services.

The expansion is expected to be fully implemented by mid-2021.
