The government of the state of New South Wales in Australia has revealed the design of the new AU$12.7 million (US$9.6 million) Newcastle Cruise Terminal.
The purpose-built facility of about 3,000 square metres will include facilities for passenger drop-off and pick up, coach parking and vessel provisioning.
It will be built at the Channel Berth, which will enable the port to receive larger cruise ships.
"The traveller experience is central to GHD Woodhead's design, with harbour views, ease of movement, natural daylight and a generous sense of spacing greeting passengers," said Port of Newcastle's CEO Geoff Crowe.
The AU$13.5 million infrastructure upgrade also includes the mooring bollards that were completed in May 2017.
Construction will begin in early 2018 after the principal contractor is appointed.
The 3,900-passenger Explorer of the Seas will make her maiden visit to Newcastle in February 2019.
