Incat Crowther has been contracted to design a 65-metre passenger ferry for South Korea's Dolphin Shipping.

The vessel, which will be tentatively named Dolphin 3, will be constructed by South Korean shipbuilder Khan and will operate between the mainland city of Pohang and the island of Ulleung-do.

Incat Crowther claims Dolphin 3 will be the second largest vessel as well as the first locally-built high-speed ferry on the Pohang-Ulleung-do route.

The vessel will carry 710 passengers on two decks while the wheelhouse will be located on a third deck with all-round visibility.

Oversize boarding points will be located aft and at amidships to facilitate boarding of the large passenger complement. There are also multiple wheelchair spaces on the main deck.

The upper deck will feature a pair of four-person VIP rooms port and starboard. Each VIP room will be fitted with first class seating.

Quad 3,700kW main engines driving Rolls Royce Kamewa S80-4 waterjets will give Dolphin 3 a speed of 39.5 knots.
